What are QR Codes?

QR Codes are 2 dimensional barcodes

We are all familiar with the standard barcodes encountered every day when we visit our local shops and supermarkets. The traditional barcode is 1 dimensional in as much as it is a single strip of a binary coded pattern and can only store small amounts of data resulting in limited use, typically just a store product code.

A 2 dimensional barcode can hold an exponentially larger amount of data than a traditional barcode and it is this feature that make QR codes suitable for a far more extensive range of applications than their single dimensional cousins.

From a marketing point of view QR codes offer a very effective way of integrating traditional printed marketing material with online, specifically mobile marketing initiatives.

As the online environment continues to evolve we are beginning to see a decline in visitor numbers to traditional websites paralleled by an increasing number of visitors to URLs optimised for mobile devices. This, alongside the growth in the use of ‘Smart’ mobile devices, presents us with a new marketing environment quite unlike anything previously dealt with.

The new – QR Code / Smart Mobile Device / optimised web URL – model of marketing will enable direct, ongoing and productive communication between printed material, products and online content all within the immediate presence of the targeted user. This level of immediacy and interactivity will pander directly to the demand for ‘instant gratification’ so typical of the modern consumer.

We at MBM Online ltd, working alongside our sister company MBM Europe ltd  create effectively targeted marketing campaigns taking full advantage of the myriad possibilities offered by 2 dimensional barcodes such as QR Codes integrated with specifically designed mobile websites and applications.
